Wikus Weber put in some dominating performances over the past weekend to claim both the 11Global Sprint Event as well as the main Olympic Distance Event. Weber brushed aside Glen Gore on the Saturday to win the sprint distance race and then rounded off the perfect weekend, by winning the Olympic Distance race on the Sunday ahead of Gerhard De Bruin.
Weber despite suffering from food poisoning managed to claim the Sprint title in 1:06 with Gore just a mere 4 seconds behin on the Saturday morning. Unbeknown to Gore, Weber had contracted a bout of food poisoning the night before and he battled along to secure the victory on the Saturday preceding the main event on Sunday. Both Weber and Gore had entered the 11 Squared event which comprised a seperate competition with athletes having to complete both events and then a total time taken to determine the overall winner. Weber would again line up on the Sunday to defend his 11Global Title from 2012. He managed to recover and put in a dominating performance with only Gerhard De Bruin challenging him over the 1.5km swim/40km cycle and 10km run. It was Weber who managed to run away from De Bruin who had a stormer of a bike leg to claim the victory. De Bruin secured a well deserved 2nd place with Seegers coming home in 3rd spot. Sam Harrington managed to claim the Ladies victory on the Sunday with an equally dominiating performance on the bike and run leg’s. She came home ahead of Katherine Du Buisson who claimed the runner-up spot.
A great weekend had by all at arguably the best race location in Southern Africa. 11Global look forward to seeing you all again in 2014.
