Current SA Junior Triathlon Champion Ben De La Porte as well as 3rd place finisher Asher Biggs will headline the start-list of this coming weekends Tinman TRI SERIES race no 3, taking place down in Durban.

De La Porte and Biggs have recently returned from Europe and are in fine form as they use this event to prepare themselves for the World Triathlon Championships taking place in Australia the middle of September.

They will not have it all their own way with past winners Rudolf Naude and Pieter-Jan Van Der Merwe making the trip down from Pretoria to compete over the 1km swim/30km cycle and 10km run. Both of these seasoned athletes will be looking to ensure they are in the mix from the get-go and will give the top juniors a run for their money, hoping that their experience will be a factor when it comes to deciding who steps on top of the podium come prize-giving. A 1km surf swim should allow for the stronger swimmers to form a break-away group on the bike over the flat and fast beachfront circuit which is closed to traffic on the day. A full-on draft legal race will surely prepare these athletes properly for what is to come for some of them next month as they head over to Aussie and the World Champs.

Casper Moodie will also be racing and will want to show that the month he has spent overseas training for the World 70.3 Champs scheduled for Port Elizabeth on the 2nd September has been put to good use. Nolan Steele and Josh Wiborg will also be hoping to be at the sharp-end of the race over the bike segment heading into the final 10km run loop that takes place on the promenade outside of Suncoast Casino

Racing will start at 7am with the 10km runners off first, closely followed by the Rookie triathlon event. This section has seen the biggest growth with well over 100 + competitors turning out for each event to contest an easily do-able 200m surf swim/6km cycle and 2km run.

The Sprint Tri Event (500m swim/20km cycle/5km run) will start just after 7:30 with the Challenge Athletes (1km/30km/10km) going off last

An exciting morning with some hot racing is expected. The weather is also looking great for Sunday and that will ensure a fun day down at the beach for the whole family. for more details on the next Tinman event and others…
