Durban 9th January
Schoeman and Dance Dominate
Henri Schoeman (TEAM FUTURE LIFE) tasted victory in the first race of the 2012 season by convincingly winning the Suncoast Multisport Series Triathlon held in Durban on the 9th of January. Schoeman, the fastest triathlon swimmer in the country at the moment, lead the swimmers out of the 1.5km sea swim with a healthy buffer over fellow team mate, Glen Gore who was trailing about 1:30 back. A big group of swimmers all exited the water after Gore with their sites set firmly on catching Schoeman over the flat and fast 40km cycle. This was not to be as Schoeman extended his lead on the bike leg which gave him a sizable cushion heading onto the 10km run. Schoeman (Future Life) crossed the line first in just over 2hrs with Gore (Team Future Life) a further 3 minutes and Gilbert Quevauvilliers (Pronto Print) rounding out the final podium spot. Lauren Dance (Mad Multisport) had an equally convincing win in the ladies section, leading from the front and never looking challenged. Her only concern would have been former professional triathlete and South African Champion now turned chopper pilot, Kim Carter (Tri X) who was putting enough pressure on her to ensure that Dance had to maintain the intensity over the Olympic distance event in order to secure the victory. A great start to the season for Dance who now looks set to take on the top ladies at SA Championships in March.
