Indian Ocean Triathlon Preview: It’s on this weekend

INDIAN OCEAN TRIATHLON 2013

The beautiful island of Mauritius, set in the heart of the Indian Ocean, will welcome a stream of International triathletes to this weekend’s annual Indian Ocean Triathlon. The race starts at the prestigious Lux Le Morne Resort which will see triathletes, dive into crystal clear waters to complete the 1.8km swim before heading out onto the bike for the 58km cycle. The cycle route, although flat most of the way, does include the infamous Chamarel climb which is a 4km beast of an ascent that takes the participants to a height that allows them to see for miles in every direction. Athletes will not be stopping to sight-see and will instead be focussed on the 12km, 3 loop run leg that follows the bike. The run route is unique in that is takes in some road/gravel and beach surfaces before athletes finish in front of the watersport club at Lux Le Morne.

Some hot competition is expected amongst the male pro field with seasoned French Professionals, Frederic Belaubre, David Hauss and Olivier Marceau in attendance. The triathlon season in Europe might be over but dont think for a seacond that these athletes will not want to win convincingly. Belaubre had a somewhat forgetable race last year which saw him puncture on the bike whilst in the lead and then blow-up badly on the run. He will want to make ammends for that defeat this year. Marceau, one of a handful of triathletes still at Pro level after 20 years plus in the sport, will want to defend his title he won last year while Hauss is the newbie. The heat and wind could throw a spanner in the works with some dark horses also in with a shot at the title this year.

The Ladies race will feature Charlotte Morel – Past French Triathlon Champion who will be going for another win after her dominating performance in 2012. South Africa’s Caroline Koll will look to make her work hard for the win with some other female Pro’s also set to make their mark on this idyllic race set in the heart of paradise. Racing get’s underway on Saturday with an early 7am start with the lead men, expected to finish just under the 3hr mark.

Lux Ler Morne and Tamassa are the two resorts that will host all the international triathletes in the build up to race day on Saturday. Mauritius is an ideal destination for triathletes. nothing better than racing and training in surrounds that are truly excepetional.

Good Luck to all triathletes competing, the racing is going to be HOT!!
