The Alley Roads Triathlon Series which kicks off on the 4th November down in Durban is set to further strengthen the sport of triathlon in South Africa.
The 5 race series which includes three SWIM-RUN events and two TRIATHLON events will ensure that the sport of triathlon in KZN and South Africa receive a welcome additional boost especially amongst the youngsters and newbies to the sport
Currently, the sport of triathlon is experiencing a wave of popularity especially over the longer distances. There is the World 70.3 Championships taking place in PE at the start of September which is a feather in the cap for the country and the sport in general. The age groups best served by these race distances are in the age category 30+.
There is a definite need to strengthen the sport at grass-root level and this includes ensuring that the younger generation are taken care of in terms of race events and distances that they too can partake in.
The AR TRI SERIES will definitely fill this gap as it seeks to encourage youngsters from the age of 9yrs + to partake in the sport of triathlon over recognised distances that are geared specifically for them.
The emphasis of the tri series concept is also one of fun for the whole family. There are race distances for everyone with the sharp end of the field racing for positions and times while the bulk of the field just want to compete, have some fun along the way and finish their respective events with a smile on their face
The AR TRI Series will start on the 4th November with a SWIM-RUN event down in Durban. 2 distances will be on offer at each of the three swim-run aquathlon events:
500m swim – 2.5km run
1km swim – 5km run
Round no 2 of the aquathlon series will take place on the 18th November with the Round no 3 finale taking place on the 20th January 2019. Full Details can be found on the website www.triseries.co.za if you want to enter into the aquathlon events.
The Triathlon Events will kick off on the 25th November at Midmar. With our good friends, the ULTRA TRI SERIES having moved their Midlands event to Johannesburg, we have managed to step in and take up the date and offer the following triathlon events come race day
