The every popular AFRIMAN DUATHLON, hosted by the very well known and one of the longest established race organisers in SA, Andre De Beer from FRANCO SPORT has recently been launched for 2017 with entries now open.
The duathlon event that covers a 10km run/70km cycle and 5km run will have some exciting changes, especially to the bike route in 2017. The race which takes place on the 25th September will have a new start with ZOERFONTEIN hosting the start and finish areas of the Afriman Duathlon.
Athletes will be running on tar as well as gravel and will take in the 9 hole golf course as part of their run route at the Zoerfontein Golf Course Venue. The bike route will follow last year’s exact same course which is 3 loops but the start and finish will now be at Zoerfontein. Andre took this decision to enhance the experience of all the duathletes that will be lining up on race day. It also eliminates the short dirt road section that the cyclists have had to navigate in the past to get from the transition zone onto the main tar road section. This will be a welcome reliefe to some of the cyclists who have competed at this event over the last 18 years or so…………
Athletes will be treated to a festival of events on the day with a miniafriman events also taking place over a distance of 5km run/23km cycle/2.5km run. This will ensure that the more fun duathletes who are looking to compete over the shorter distances are well looked after
In preperation for the AFRIMAN 2017, FRANCO SPORT will be hosting a miniman duathlon on the 2nd July over the same distances as the Afriman mini (5km run/23km cycle/2.5km run). Athletes can come and race and get a feel for the Afriman race course which takes place at the end of September when the weather is normally at its best.
Entries are open for both events via the www.spectrumsport.co.za. This is a non draft race, TT bars and TT bikes are allowed and there will be medals handed out to all finishers. The Race will get underway at 8am
